Proverbs 11:24-25
One man gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly,
but comes to poverty. A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes
others will himself be refreshed.

Christian Charity for low-income families in Denver Colorado.
On
Saturday, December 18th, 2010 volunteers from Northglenn United Church of
Christ gathered to put together food baskets for low-income families
in the community. The church has been assembling these baskets,
which include a frozen turkey, eggs, milk, butter, potatoes, apples,
oranges, rice, beans, and other assorted grocery staples, for over
30 years.

The
program has grown from a dozen to 91 food baskets this year. This
was due, in part, to the efforts of the event organizers, Mary K and
Greg Birdwhistell, who scoured the sales at local groceries, to buy
the baskets' contents at the most inexpensive prices. Donations from
church members for the baskets also increased due to the elevated
need in the community for food assistance.
Fifty nine of the baskets went to Access Housing which provides
housing to low-income families and individuals. The remaining
baskets went to families of Hospice patients and neighborhood
families in need.
Reverend Cal Kemper said "We give because it's the natural thing to
do. When we realize the gift we have been given in Jesus, it's a
spontaneous response in us to give back." Mary K Birdwhistell, added
that it "pretty much makes Christmas for me."
Northglenn United Church of Christ is an open and affirming
congregation that welcomes everyone. It is located at 10500 Grant
Street, Northglenn, Colorado.
We
encourage everyone who shares our caring and loving nature to help
us to help those that need it the most. Many families need our help
all year long. Please give from your heart.
Paul's First Letter to
the Corinthians Chapter 13
Though I speak with the tongues of
men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding
brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy,
and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have
all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I
am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and
though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it
profiteth me nothing.
Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity
vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself
unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no
evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth
all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all
things.
Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall
fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be
knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we
prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that
which is in part shall be done away.
When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I
thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish
things. For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to
face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am
known.
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest
of these is charity.
